Youth Art 4 Climate Action – May 15

May 23, 2010

About 200 people from across the city attended the first Art4Justice event that took place on Saturday.  Art4Justice is a youth-led project that provides a positive space for youth artists to utilize their artistic expression as a catalyst for social change.  The Youth Art 4 Climate Action event featured performances by local musicians/poets, an open youth art gallery, interactive art stations, and a number of tabling non-profit organizations.

The evening featured creative performances by the crew at Youngstown Records, Human Beings (Pepe and Brody), and Air 2 A Bird (Gabriel Teodros, Amos Miller, Estrella De Leon, Lara Davis).  Local tabling organizations included: Puget Sound Off, Washington BUS, Climate Solutions, We Are Democracy, YMCA Earth Service Corps, Nature Consortium, and Seattle Music Partners.

The purpose of the event was to connect youth artistic expression with social activism and build community by inspiring and being inspired by each other.  This was the Art4Justice Committee’s first event ever and we are psyched about the great turnout that we had and the positive feedback that we received.  Our second event, Increase the Peace, will kick off in less than 1 month on June 20th!  Look for more updates coming soon-
